Hillside Hermitage
Словения
Добавлен 2 апр 2018
Hillside Hermitage was first built in the hills of central Sri Lanka, and is now relocated to the mountain forests of Slovenia. It is a registered charity which supports a group of solitary monastics spread out across Europe, and who are following the Early Buddhist Suttas and Nyanamoli Thero's teachings. They live independently, apart from the mainstream traditions.
The channel contains the teachings of Nyanamoli Thero and his disciples on Dhamma, meditation and various practical aspects of the Buddha's Teaching.

The Noble Path of Dependent Origination
A discussion aimed at gaining direct insight into the principle of "Dependent Origination" or "Simultaneous Presence."
Sn12.41 Pañcaverabhaya Suttaṃ:
"Which is the noble method that is well-seen and well-understood by wisdom? Here, householder, a noble disciple thoroughly "concurrently attends" to this dependent origination: ‘When this exists, that is; when this does not exist, that is not; with the arising of this, that arises; with the ceasing of this, that ceases."

If the house is burning, who started the fire?
at 10:32 Bhante said a thought sankhara, what do you mean by that? Is it the vaci sankhara or citta sankhara? because there are only 3 types of sankharas that I know from the sutta : kaya, vaci and citta sankhara. Thank you...
"Either way I'll suffer, let me at least now suffer in a way that has the potential for me to lose desire for any bait" - this is something to remember.
sadhu sadhu Bhante..
Bhante says we don't have a say in the arising of our feelings, that we're subjected to them. Can someone help me understand this? If I eat a carton of ice cream and it creates an unpleasant feeling, didn't I have a say in the arising of the unpleasant feeling?
Thank you, I really needed to hear this message.
Thank you Bhantes 🙏🏼
Cause of ignornace is program and brainwashing by government There’s no such thing is ignorance comes from nothing
Delusion means something else. Delusion is the constant forgetting of mind, the oposite of sati. It means not knowing whatyou are doing when you are doing i, Its not done acctivliy. Its the modus operandi of mind. Automating things.
I thought a stream enterer could not stray from the path. I thought a stream enterer was incapable of breaking a precept.
Anger is many times born from injustice. Sometimes it's born from perceived threats. Other times, frustration. Either way, it's source is our judgement of something (generally but not always) in our external environment. To judge, is to in many ways, discern. Discernment allows us to identify (in its most simplistic form) good from evil, that which is good vs. that which causes harm, loss, damage or injury to another. Anger could be seen as a barometer of sorts...a barometer that tells you of the conditions of the environment around us. Anger towards others can be nothing more than an egoic energy (you offended me) or it can be an emotion with a specific purpose that humans, still have yet to comprehend what it is and is for, let alone the messages our anger is sending us. What do those messages say? Why are they sent? Why can't we easily interpret those messages accurately? It ties into the very design and ultimate engineering of the biological meat suits we all inhabit. Judging anger as bad is, in my humble opinion, starting from a false pretense. Our emotions are there to tell us things, to inform us. Our problem is that we lack the understanding of the messages being sent from the emotion.
"Desire is a symptom of the attitude of craving"
oh my god bro, this gives me so many insights. thanks a alot <3
Thank you, Venerable. How would you distinguish desire from Intention, from Chanda, and so on? I had been operating under the belief that desire was not the same as craving
Thank you for the exposition, Bhantes. It's refreshing to hear paticca-samuppada spoken on as deeper than simple "cause and effect", and it makes sense as the translation I originally saw said "dependent co-arising" as opposed to "dependent origination". It makes further sense when you consider the arahant is supposed to have cut off craving, and part of paticca-samuppada is expounded such: "From feeling as a requisite condition comes craving". If feeling was simply the cause that led to the effect of craving then an arahant wouldn't feel anything, and it's quite clear feeling is supposed to be present in the arahant while craving is not.

Thank you so much!
Question please: What book is he reading from? I've tried to find a book of the Suttas. I've asked the help of a librarian. There were only books of commentary from people today. And I found out there are different schools, and types, or suttas from different countries.
Bhante Sujato from suttacentral has free translations.
He references the 5 nikayas, which are the early suttas that are closest to the teachings buddha actually taught.
Description says "Sn12.41 Pañcaverabhaya Suttaṃ." 'Sn' is [often] an abbreviation for Sutta Nipata, so this description would be a mistake. 'SN' is intended here, for 'Samyutta Nikaya', as is said in the vid. This sutta is from Samyutta Nikaya [SN], 12.41 Pañcaverabhaya Suttaṃ. AccesstoInsight is a useful site, although this particular sutta isn't there.
Thank you @@krenx
@@kzantalthank you.
Yes, ignorance is a choice. The ignorant people I know choose it. They will tell you if you ask. It's not about themselves but about certain subjects.
So the problem is craving in regard to something that isn't even mine, which is the feeling? :O

Hi everyone, i was wondering if someone would be able to help me. I was recently talking to my brother who is curious about why im leaning towards Buddhism. He asked why i no longer watch movies, i said because its a distraction and an escape from reality. And he said "when i watch a movie with my wife and kids, im doing it because its a fun thing to do with the family, I'm not escaping anything by enjoying time with my family whilst we watch a movie together, so what is it you think im escaping from by doing that?" And i didn't really have a response. I wasn't sure what to say. He understands that that feeling wont last, that "fun" family time is only temporary and that doesnt bother him and he doesnt view the movie as an necessity, so whats wrong with enjoying it even for only a moment? Could anybody help me on this? Id really appreciate it, thank you
🙏🙏🙏 come again to srilanka bhanthe 🙏🙏
I have a question. I realize this question may seem apparently "heartless," but the more I focus inward, the clearer many things become. I am Italian, and many groups that follow Theravada Buddhism talk about a "loving approach," "compassion," etc., as well as the Kriya Yoga path that I followed for some time. By experiencing equanimity, bliss, silence, and the state of presence, I perceive the precepts as having the sole purpose of keeping the mind silent, to live in peace. However, often, especially in religions, I notice a tendency towards this "goodness" that is automatically linked to realization. What I mean is that perhaps the behaviors are the same: not speaking ill, not lying, sexual abstinence, etc., but the inner approach is different, the goal, if you will. I want to free myself from suffering, to keep my mind calm, not to be a do-gooder to the world and then become enlightened. Is this not somewhat different, or am I mistaken? Thank you
🙏
This one hit deep. Many thanks for your teaching. ❤
There's no such thing is ignorance, Ignornace real meaning is programmed, mind control This world is created to distract from reality Mindfulness means literally means not being a sleepless, or following thw robot society Real meaning of ignorance is mind control/programming People are program to reproduce, be greedy in money, fight for survival People need to understand that all religion must be approved first in 1 world government or secret soceity Not everything in Buddhism is true That's why Buddha want to understand people that attachment can lead to suffering too Thw word suffering literally means suffering because of unconscious decisions or not letting go the program of the beliefs system Our true religion is our intuition, we know what's true and what's right
Mindfulness means literally means not being a sheeple following the robot society
Falling into the traps of the mind is our own work because we enjoy it, ☘️
Another good explanation from Ven.. Wish in future upload an explanation on the semiotic of desire by Ven sariputta from Mahavedalla sutta.
Such nice.. Sadhu sadhu 🙏🙏
Thank you Bhante 🙏. How should one approach and understand Right Effort, then, in this context? With respect to making effort for the unwholesome mentate states to cease, and prevent their airisng?
So, you say, that anyone who refuses the terror and mind-numbing boredom imposed on them by the lie of self-consciousness, is delusional, like that's a bad thing? If madness and perversion are bad and their subjects suffer, it is only because desire shamed out of realizing its full potential in life and working in impotent resignation for the dominant social and economic interests. You priests are always cursing desire like this. The answer is more madness, more perversion, something has to break.
The description made at 28:12, very insightful and well expounded.
4:05 This is cited by the RUclipsr Einzelgänger in a video essay, as are some later parts.
Very well delivered teaching. I am a therapist and Buddhist practitioner, this teaching reflects my basic understanding of ADHD. Thanks, will be sharing with others. 🙏
Based on this sutta, it seems like bhava only ends in parinibbana. Can you please explain this based on the lecture? “These two elements of nibbana have been explained by the Clear-eyed One, the unattached, the unaffected. One element pertains to the present life-with residue though the conduit to rebirth has ended; and that with no residue, which pertains to what follows this life, where all states of bhava cease.” -Iti 44
Does delusion also refer to our identifying things as being me or mine? For example, even though I know better intellectually, I still find myself thinking of my body as "me". Thank you 🙏
Good question. I'm not sure avijja and moha are synonymous. Taking the 5 aggregates as self and ignoring that craving is the origin of suffering, not knowing the way out of suffering basically, is avijja. Moha is our underlying tendency to want to ignore / distract ourselves from neutral feelings. Moha is a form of craving underlied by avijja. But are these two terms synonymous in some contexts? Maybe. They're certainly synonymous to many translators.
Sadhu!
🙏
